Minister of Justice visits Brava Island and commits to the construction of the New Palace of Justice.
City of Nova Sintra, July 17, 2026 (Bravanews) - The Minister of Justice, Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Parliamentary Affairs and Social Communication, Clovis Isildo Silva, made an important official working visit to Brava Island, marking a strong presence of the Central Government in the region. This trip was part of a continuous effort to decentralize and get closer to local communities, allowing the minister to see the reality of the sector on the southernmost island of the archipelago.
The governor's agenda was intense and filled with strategic visits to the main institutions that support public administration, legality, and citizenship on Brava Island. The Minister followed a rigorous itinerary that included working meetings at the Brava Municipal Chamber, the District Court, the Public Prosecutor's Office, and the Civil Registry and Notary Services.
In his final assessment of his visit to the island, the government official emphasized in statements on social media that the initiative's central purpose was to foster closer relationships with citizens and institutions on the island. According to the Minister, the trip served primarily to listen directly to the people, seeking to understand their real difficulties and aspirations firsthand.
The Minister explicitly stated that it was a priority to know what the population of Brava expects from the Ministry he oversees, but also from the Government as a whole. The official made a point of guaranteeing that the residents of Brava Island can count on the total dedication and commitment of the executive branch to do what is best for local development and the well-being of all residents.
The official tour began early in the day at the Town Hall, where the government delegation was warmly received by the local council team. On that occasion, the Minister met with the local elected officials, initiating an open dialogue about the main issues facing the island.
The Minister publicly highlighted the excellent hospitality and collaborative spirit demonstrated right from the start of the proceedings. He emphasized that the conversation with the municipal representatives served to demonstrate the Government's deep interest in achieving increasingly better and more effective coordination between the various public entities.
During this institutional meeting at the local authority, local representatives took the opportunity to present to the government official one of Brava's oldest and most pressing demands. The urgent need to provide the island with a new and modern Palace of Justice was formally conveyed to the Minister.
Municipal authorities argued that centralizing justice services in a single purpose-built building is seen as a crucial step towards enhancing the sector on the island. The construction of this infrastructure would allow the District Court, the Public Prosecutor's Office, and the Civil Registry and Notary services to be brought together under one roof, optimizing existing resources.
After carefully listening to local aspirations, the Minister of Justice continued his agenda with detailed visits to the current facilities of the District Court and the Prosecutor's Office. At these locations, the minister met with magistrates and judicial officials to assess working conditions and the speed of proceedings on the island.
The ministerial delegation also visited the Civil Registry and Notary Services in Brava, where they directly interacted with the staff who provide daily service to the public. The Minister was able to observe firsthand the operating conditions of these essential services and the main needs in terms of technological modernization.
In light of the collected diagnosis and the requests from the local authority, the Minister made a firm and public commitment to the population of Brava Island. The government official promised to work tirelessly to ensure the Brava Palace of Justice project moves forward, guaranteeing the modernization of services and greater judicial efficiency in the region.
Beyond the promised improvements to the physical infrastructure, the Minister of Justice placed particular emphasis on the human, social, and humanitarian aspects of his portfolio. The minister categorically guaranteed that the Ministry will work diligently on the social reintegration of prisoners originating from Brava Island.
The Minister concluded by stating that the Government is strongly focused on creating real opportunities for the reintegration of citizens upon completion of their prison sentences. With this renewed commitment on several fronts, the official visit ended with an optimistic outlook for the future of public services and justice on Brava Island.
