Brava trains fishermen in engine repair techniques.
City of Nova Sintra, 1 Nova Sintra 2026 (Bravanews) — In an initiative aimed at strengthening the fishing sector and promoting local sustainability, a practical training course dedicated to boat engine repair will take place between August 31 and September 5. The program is promoted by the Biflores Association, within the scope of the PaMar project, in close partnership with the Brava City Council.
The initiative directly targets fishermen from the communities of Lomba and Furna, two vital points for fishing activity on the island. With a strong practical component, the training was designed to meet the real needs faced by professionals in their daily work at sea. Among the main objectives of the training are strengthening technical skills in the maintenance and repair of marine engines, increasing the fishermen's autonomy to resolve mechanical breakdowns quickly and safely, and improving safety conditions at sea by reducing the risks associated with technical failures during fishing activities.
This collaboration between local entities and associations reflects a deep commitment to valuing the fishing community. By providing fishermen with advanced tools and technical knowledge, the PaMar project directly contributes to the local economy of Brava Island, ensuring that the fishing sector develops in a more sustainable, resilient, and independent way. The initiative represents an important step towards ensuring that the local fishing community has the necessary resources to face daily challenges with greater security and confidence.
