Mayor of Brava hopeful of working with the Government to overcome the island's challenges.
The mayor of Brava, Amândio Brito, expressed today his hope that the municipality and the government can work together to overcome the island's main challenges.
Amândio Brito was speaking to the press in Praia City after a meeting with the Prime Minister and several members of the Government, held at the Government Palace, during which he presented a set of concerns that he considers fundamental for the development of Brava.
Among the main challenges, the mayor highlighted transport, water and health, which he considered to be "pillars on which Brava is based" to move forward in the process of growth and development.
"The issue of transportation continues to worry us, as does the issue of water, both in terms of quantity and quality, but also the issue of health," he stated.
According to Amândio Brito, these are problems that need to be definitively resolved, considering the impact they have on the lives of the population and on the socio-economic development of the island.
"There is no one who can look at Brava and not want these problems to be definitively resolved," he stressed.
During the meeting, the City Council also raised concerns related to social housing, urban renewal, accessibility and the improvement of isolated areas, as well as the need for road paving.
The local authority also raised issues with the Government related to education and technical and vocational training, youth unemployment, agriculture, fishing, livestock farming and tourism.
"These areas represent challenges for the island that deserve our joint attention, both from the Government and the City Council," he stressed.
The mayor of Brava, on the other hand, considered the meeting to have gone positively, highlighting the warm welcome the delegation received from the government.
"There needs to be a clear transparency regarding the level of commitment to helping Brava and working in harmony with the City Council so that these challenges can actually be overcome," he stated.
Amândio Brito therefore advocated for concerted action between the Government and the local authority to find concrete solutions to the constraints affecting the island and to create better conditions for its development.
