Fernanda Burgo resumes mandate as national deputy in pre-election climate
Cidade de Nova Sintra, January 11, 2025 (Bravanews) - After about five months with her mandate suspended in the National Assembly since August 2025, MP Fernanda Burgo officially resumed her parliamentary duties in the January 2026 session, in one of the most intense and politically heated periods in the country, given the approach of the next legislative elections.
During the period of his suspension, his seat had been taken by the first alternate for the Brava constituency, Samuel Varela, who took on parliamentary responsibilities on behalf of the island and the party. With Burgo's return, this phase of substitution comes to an end and a new cycle of action begins until the end of the current legislature.
Sources close to the MP confirmed to Bravanews that Fernanda Burgo remains firmly committed to the island of Brava, guaranteeing that she will continue to defend its causes, demands and priorities in Parliament, just as she did before her suspension. According to the same sources, the MP is determined to "continue the work she has started, honoring the trust of the people of Brava and making the island's voice heard in the great national debates".
When asked about the possibility of standing again as a candidate in the next legislative elections, Fernanda Burgo had not replied to our message by the close of this piece, so we will return to this subject in future pieces.
With Fernanda Burgo's return to the Chamber, expectations are growing about her position, interventions and possible impact on the political scene, especially in a context in which Parliament is going through an intense period of debates and strategies, on the eve of a new electoral dispute.
Bravanews will continue to follow the dossier and promises to return to this subject as soon as there are new developments.
