ICCA Brava Steps Up Community Awareness Efforts as Part of the “Nôs Férias Protegidas” Campaign
Nova Sintra, September 9, 2026 (Bravanews) — The Cabo(ICCA) on Brava Island organized a community awareness campaign in the city of Nova Sintra, covering the areas of Lém and Cova Rodela, as part of the activities for the National Day “Nôs Férias Protegidas.”
This initiative is part of ICCA’s efforts to strengthen prevention and protection measures for children and adolescents during the school break, bringing information and messages to communities aimed at promoting safer, more attentive, and protective environments for children and youth.
During the campaign, the ICCA team visited the areas covered by the initiative, establishing direct contact with residents and sharing guidance on protecting the rights of children and adolescents. The community awareness campaign sought to draw attention to the collective responsibility for preventing situations that could compromise the safety, physical and emotional well-being, and healthy development of young people.
The “Nôs Férias Protegidas” campaign is particularly important because it takes place during a time when many children and adolescents are out of school and spend more time in their communities, with their families, friends, and other members of society. In this context, prevention and community vigilance are essential for identifying risky situations and taking timely action whenever necessary.
In keeping with the spirit of the initiative, the protection of children and adolescents should not be viewed as the sole responsibility of public institutions or families. On the contrary, it requires the active participation of the entire society, including community leaders, schools, social organizations, authorities, professionals who work with children, and citizens in general.
The event held in Nova Sintra thus served to reinforce the importance of a vigilant community that is prepared to recognize possible signs of vulnerability, neglect, violence, or other situations that may jeopardize the rights of children and adolescents.
By bringing awareness messages directly to the communities of Lém and Cova Rodela, the ICCA also sought to bring protection services closer to the population, creating opportunities for dialogue and information sharing. A presence on the ground allows prevention messages to reach families and various community stakeholders more directly.
Awareness-raising also plays an important role in promoting a culture of protection, in which children and adolescents can grow up in an environment where their rights are recognized, respected, and defended. To this end, it is essential that adults be aware of their duties and know how to respond to situations that may pose a threat to the well-being or development of minors.
On Ilha Brava, this activity demonstrates the commitment of the local ICCA office to strengthening preventive measures and mobilizing communities around the protection of children and adolescents.
The “Nôs Férias Protegidas” National Day aims precisely to place child protection at the center of attention during the vacation period through information, awareness-raising, and social mobilization efforts. The initiative seeks to encourage responsible behavior and strengthen cooperation among families, communities, and institutions.
More than just conveying prevention messages, actions of this nature seek to foster a change in attitude within society, reinforcing the idea that every citizen can play a role in creating safer environments for children.
In Nova Sintra, the ICCA team’s visit to the Lém and Cova Rodela areas thus represents another step forward in the community-based work carried out on behalf of children in Brava. Community awareness is an important tool for preventing risks, promoting children’s rights, and encouraging society’s participation in building an increasingly strong protection network.
By continuing these initiatives, the ICCA aims to help ensure that children and adolescents enjoy their summer break in a safe, healthy, and protected manner, relying on the involvement of families and the entire community to achieve this.
