Samuel Varela visits some of Brava's traders and highlights the sector's growth despite transportation difficulties
Nova Sintra City, November 29, 2025 (Bravanews) The national MP for the Brava constituency, Samuel Varela (MpD), has made a series of visits to local traders in recent days, with the aim of listening directly to the concerns, challenges and expectations of those who sustain a large part of the Brava economy. The initiative comes at a time when the lack of maritime transport continues to penalize the island, affecting supplies, prices and commercial activity.
In statements to Bravanews, Samuel Varela said he deeply understood the difficulties faced by traders and expressed solidarity with all those who, despite the adversity, continue to invest and keep their doors open.
According to the MP, trade on Brava has grown significantly in recent years, as a result of the courage, resilience and determination of local entrepreneurs, who "haven't cowered in the face of problems" and continue to play an essential role in the island's socio-economic development.
During the talks, the traders were clear in pointing out the main obstacle: the urgent need for improvements in maritime transportation, which is considered vital for the flow of goods and the smooth running of commerce. Many reported recurring losses, delays in supply and logistical challenges that hinder competitiveness.
"The traders are only asking for what is fair: better transportation to the island and dignified treatment," Varela stressed, assuring that he will take these concerns to the competent authorities and that he will continue to monitor the situation closely.
The MP also reiterated his commitment to working so that structural solutions can finally reach Brava, allowing the local economy to develop with greater stability and predictability, to the benefit of the entire population.
