30 years of history and knowledge, Eugénio Tavares da Brava Secondary School celebrates milestone with tribute gala
Nova Sintra City, October 18, 2025 (Bravanews) - The Eugénio Tavares Secondary School (ESET), the only and first secondary education institution on Brava Island, is celebrating a milestone of three decades of existence. Founded in 1995, the school has been the pillar of educational development on the island of Flores for 30 years, training generations and shaping Brava's youth.

The 30th anniversary celebrations, which culminate on October 18 - a date that coincides significantly with the National Day of Culture and the birth anniversary of the patron, the illustrious poet Eugénio Tavares - are the highlight of a series of activities taking place under the motto "United in diversity and strong in culture".
In 1995, the creation of the Brava Secondary School represented a turning point, ending the need for many young people to travel to other islands in search of education. Since then, ESET has been the epicenter of local academic life, transcending the role of a mere learning space to establish itself as a true community and cultural center.
In statements on social media, the school's management stressed the profound importance of the anniversary, not only for the institution, but for the progress of the Bravense community. "Thirty years is not just any date. It's three decades of sowing knowledge, cultivating identity and preparing our young people for the future," said a representative, highlighting the institution's relevance to the island's socio-economic development.
To celebrate with the pomp and circumstance that the milestone deserves, the Eugénio Tavares Secondary School organized a grand Gala. The event aims to pay tribute to and recognize the contribution of all those who, over these three decades, have dedicated their work and passion to the cause of education on the island.
The commemorative program includes a series of activities that reflect the school's dynamism and its roots in Bravense culture. In addition to the Gala, there were cultural, sporting and health initiatives. Sporting activities, such as internal tournaments, promoting conviviality and team spirit among students from the different stages of education.
In addition, a health fair and other initiatives are planned to strengthen the links between the school and the community, in an appeal for everyone to take part, including parents and guardians who have often also been ESET students.
The celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Eugénio Tavares Secondary School is not just an institutional anniversary; it is a celebration of resilience, investment in the future and the affirmation of Brava on the national educational scene, keeping alive the spirit of its patron, who so well knew how to sing the soul and culture of Cape Verde. ESET looks to the future with the ambition of continuing to be a beacon of knowledge and a place of growth for the next generations of Bravenses.
