Speaking to the press, the head of the group and also a member of the Cabo Verdean Karate Federation Orlando Lopes explained that this visit to Brava Island aims to motivate its athletes and establish contacts for the implementation and effectiveness of the sport on the island. which is one of those that does not have this sport in the country.

According to this official, there is a group of athletes who will participate in the national competition, which will be held on the island of Boa Vista, so they decided to bring the other athletes to the island of Brava as a form of motivation, but also to show the people of Brava some techniques of martial arts and what they did during a year of training.

For Brava, three demonstrations have been scheduled, starting on Monday, the 28th, in Nova Sintra, but which was interrupted due to the electricity cut, with the intention of repeating this demonstration and carrying out two others, one in Furna, today , and another in Nossa Senhora do Monte.

As a member of the Cabo Verdean Karate Federation, he took the opportunity to make contacts on the island, as evidenced that in the country only the Brava and Maio islands do not have this modality in their sports framework.

From there, he stressed that in Brava he was in contact with the mayor and the person in charge of Sports and the idea is to prepare a teacher residing on the island, with training and practices, following legal procedures, in order to work with children, interested young people and adults.

Orlando Lopes himself undertook to supervise the work on the island on a weekly basis.

As general coach of the Fogo/Brava region, he announced that he will work for this modality to be developed and implemented in Brava, defending that sport on this island cannot be limited to football and futsal.

In fact, he argued that young people from Brave, when witnessing the work carried out by the Fogo em Chama group, were motivated and interested in participating in this modality.

On the part of this school, the athlete Carlos de Pina considered that this activity is being “great fun” thus having the opportunity to present what they have learned to the people of Brave, but also the opportunity to encourage them to embark on the paths of karate.

Evana de Pina considered, for her part, that this activity is an opportunity to demonstrate to the population of Brave that karate is a “discipline”, a martial art and a sport that involves a lot for the sake of health and well-being.

In addition, he concluded, it is a chance to demonstrate that sport is for everyone, regardless of gender, and other aspects that cause taboos, as it is “a way of expressing”.
