While presiding over the opening ceremony of this event, the president of the African Party for the Independence of Cape Verde (PAICV, ruling party), Francisco Carvalho, noted that the start of the new political year holds special significance, as it is the first to take place since the party’s return to power in Cape Verde.

According to the party leader, the main message of the event is the assurance that the government will fulfill the promises made during the election campaign, based on the needs, dreams, and plans of Cape Verdeans.

“The Cape Verdeans trusted us, gave us an opportunity, and we will turn these commitments into tangible results,” stated the president of the ruling party.

Francisco Carvalho highlighted a series of measures that, as he explained, began to be implemented during the first 100 days of the administration, including free access to public universities and health care.

The PAICV leader also pointed to the reduction in maritime and air transportation costs as another planned measure, noting that, starting in January 2027, ferry tickets will cost 500 escudos and airline tickets 5,000 escudos.

The PAICV president also noted that the government is developing a plan to eliminate the shantytowns in the country, adding that governance will be guided by transparency and daily accountability for the actions taken.

When asked about criticism from the opposition—specifically from the Movement for Democracy (MpD, opposition)—regarding an alleged lack of transparency, Francisco Carvalho stated that such observations must be backed by concrete data and facts.

The PAICV leader argued that political debate should be based on numbers and evidence, rather than being limited to an exchange of accusations.

Francisco Carvalho also stated that with the approval of the State Budget, scheduled for December, the Government should enter a phase of “greater implementation” of its program, with institutions in place and fully operational.

The PAICV president expressed his hope that today’s meeting would help strengthen the party’s internal unity, the harmony among its leaders, and the sense of responsibility toward the commitments made to the Cape Verdean people.

“We want to deliver concrete results in the lives of Cape Verdeans. That is what we hope for,” concluded Francisco Carvalho.
