Cape Verde Airlines certified by AAC to start domestic inter-island flights

According to the Ministry of Transport's press release, the certification constitutes "a decisive milestone" for the "effective start-up" of operations, allowing LACV to begin providing regular air connections between the islands, within the framework of the public air transport service.

Focused mainly on the domestic market, the same source said, the new carrier will play "a structuring role" in promoting territorial cohesion and unifying the national market, contributing to more balanced economic and social development throughout the archipelago.

Also within the scope of strengthening its operational capacity, LACV plans to begin the process of acquiring two ATR-type aircraft, with a view to increasing supply, strengthening frequencies between the islands and improving the reliability of domestic air operations.

As a next step, according to the press release, the government plans, in parallel with the start of LACV's operation, to approve the regulation of the decree-law that establishes the Public Service Obligations (OSP) regime in domestic air transport, an instrument that defines the mandatory minimum provision of regular inter-island service, including on routes with lower commercial profitability.

With this initiative, the Government reaffirms its commitment to the mobility of citizens, the development of domestic tourism, the strengthening of national connectivity and the construction of a more resilient and inclusive air transport system at the service of the country.
