This occurs for various reasons, such as economic crises, natural disasters, political instability, epidemics or pandemics, among other factors, but in relation to Brava, it happens because it is Brava, Brava.

This analysis follows on from their “stubbornness” and good will in wanting to invest large sums in the creation of tourist infrastructure, without which there is no action with a view to “selling” the Brava destination.

Brava Island is a small volcanic island located in the Cape Verde archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean, off the northwest coast of Africa. It is the westernmost and smallest of the inhabited islands in the archipelago, with an area of only 67 square kilometers.

Brava is known for its unspoiled natural beauty, with mountainous landscapes, steep cliffs, verdant valleys and small secluded beaches. The island is dominated by Monte Fontainhas, which rises to around 976 meters and offers impressive panoramic views.

The main town of Brava is Vila Nova Sintra, a charming urban center with narrow streets, white and gray painted houses, and a peaceful atmosphere. The city has a rich cultural heritage, reflected in its colonial architecture and local traditions, such as the morna music, a musical genre typical of Cape Verde.

Brava is an ideal destination for nature lovers, hikers and those seeking a peaceful getaway. Trails around the island offer opportunities to explore the stunning landscape, with walks winding along coastal cliffs, valleys and mountains as far as the eye can see.

To get to Brava Island, you can take a flight to São Filipe airport, on the neighboring island of Fogo, and then take a boat to Brava. It is recommended to check the timetables and availability of transport, as they may vary.

In summary, Isla Brava is an enchanting destination for travelers seeking tranquillity, natural beauty and cultural authenticity. Its mountainous landscape, isolated beaches and the charming town of Vila Nova Sintra offer visitors a unique and captivating experience.

Mr President, goodwill alone is not enough. Who is selling the “Brava” destination? Which markets have information that there is an island called Brava? Has the island participated in tourism fairs in Europe, Asia and the United States of America? What contacts has the island established with countries that send tourists, especially those who love radical activities?

That tourism was in decline or paralyzed, due to several factors, starting with the pandemic, we already know that, but the island of Brava must be able to be included in this recovery and new waves. We are all aware of the positive impacts on local economies, consistent and programmed tourism. That hotels, restaurants, travel agencies, souvenir shops and other companies related to tourism can suffer great financial losses if this sector is not given due attention, no one has any doubts. In addition, the lack of tourists can have negative consequences for cultural heritage and the preservation of certain destinations that depend on visitation for their maintenance.

Mr. President,

We are seriously concerned that Brava has been going the other way in terms of preparing the sector. Without proper organization of transport to and from Brava Island. Without proper advertising by Brava as a destination of excellence, which is committed to differentiation in relation to the islands of Sal and Boa Vista, all the work carried out or to be done in terms of investments in viewpoints, side paths, training of young people and even in the creation of the interpretive center of Nova Sintra, may be in vain and contribute to the creation of white elephants, something that Brava Island has specialized in over the years.

On the other hand, Mr President,

We have to stop and reflect better, listening to experts, investors, businessmen, ordinary citizens, so that together we can put together a strategy to reuse the island's particularities and explore other perspectives for tourism.

It will be necessary, yes, to invest in improvements in infrastructure, in the training of local professionals, in the diversification of attractions and in the promotion of domestic tourism, but first we have to have TOURISTS. How can we guarantee the sustainability of the sector if we cannot sell the “Brava” destination? Barely comparing, it would be having a well-equipped store, shelves full, warehouse full, clean and tidy, with the owner sitting at the door on a comfortable sofa, waiting for a miracle, the appearance of customers.

In a globalized world, where the tourist destinations of sun by the sea, join large ranks to disputes inch by inch, each customer;

In a reality of having to choose to go to Brava or Santo Antão, islands with similar offers;

In a sector where marketing is increasingly gaining the focus, leading customers to choose between the good, the best and the best, the island has lost and is increasingly losing ground, running the risk of even letting the emigrants of Bravese origin escape, who come visiting the island less because of the insecurity of maritime transport.

We have to reflect!

Moment to reflect on sustainability and rethink the tourism model, aiming to reduce negative impacts on the environment and the local community;

Moment to reflect on what kind of tourism we want, based on a very well-debated strategic plan, absorbing proposals from various quarters of society;

Time to reflect on which investments and at what times, avoiding spending lots of money, which cannot help in achieving the proposed objectives;

Brava does need sustainable, environmentally friendly tourism that favors local communities, benefiting small investors and micro producers, but it needs tourism with tourists.

Brava needs to sell itself, as a cultural and mountain tourist destination, where visitors can discover breathtaking landscapes, from great canyons to imposing mountains;

Where they can explore nature reserves and stunning trails that reveal unique biodiversity;

Where they find a rich cultural heritage, visiting the Museum house, emblematic colonial buildings and witnessing living history through traditional festivals, folk dances and typical cuisine;

Mr President Tavares,

Brava needs to market itself as a tourist destination, where tourists looking for a truly memorable travel experience find the island the perfect place to explore. With its natural beauty, cultural heritage, authentic experiences, adventure tourism and warm hospitality, this destination offers a unique combination of charm and discovery.

That in this campaign those responsible should not miss the opportunity to show the possible visitor that as soon as he arrives on Brava Island he will be able to experience a journey that will enrich his soul and leave lasting memories.
