Brava: Residents of Fajã begin to get discouraged with the isolation situation

The residents of Fajã d'Água, in Brava, have already started to get discouraged with the situation of isolation, mainly because there is no “green light” for when the construction of the road to get the area moving again.

Speaking to the press, the president of the local association, Helena Baptista, said that it had been about a week since the machine that was working on building the slopes and then bringing down the other unstable part of the rock at the site of the collapse had not been working. working.

As he highlighted, the information that the population has is that the machine is out of order and the professional who was working on it has even traveled.

And, according to the same source, even without a date, seeing the machine working on these rocks offered a certain “encouragement” to the residents, because, deep down, they nourished the hope of seeing the road redone, thus taking the community out of the isolation it was subjected to. due to natural causes, but also to give back to the tourist area some of the movement it was already used to.

“When there was a landslide, we invented a pedestrian path until we reached the road, and to improve the road, some improvements were made in this section, allowing for greater safety in the movement of people”, said Helena Baptista, stressing that the situation remained the same in relation to the road. by automobile.

This leader asks those who are entitled to “see this situation with different eyes” because they are also human beings, although in a small area, but who have the right to have entry and exit.

“It's a situation that you can't even explain how we're going through, because we have nothing. We have no one to support us, except the support of emigrated family members because it is an area that depends on fishing and as it is not possible for the boats to go out fishing at that time, complicating the situation”, said Helena Baptista, justifying that the community is already feeling “discouraged”.

Because, according to her, if there is no way to go out to sea, if there are no tourists or visitors to move the area and allow at least the owners of bars and commercial and tourist establishments to have some income, the population becomes totally dependent, running the risk of passing needs.

Regarding the health issue, he added that they do not have to complain because the team from the Brava Health Department travels to this location once or twice a week as needed, but in other areas the situation is increasingly complicated.

Contacted by Inforpress, the mayor of Brava, Francisco Tavares, said that the road situation “is complicated”, stressing that on the part of the Government and the council there is all the will, commitment and desire to see the situation resolved.

However, it showed that it is necessary to recognize the complexity of this work and the difficulties that an island like Brava has, where there are no large companies, there is no equipment available for replacement when there are breakdowns, and that at the moment the works are paralyzed waiting of parts to repair the machine and then work will resume.

The town of Fajã d'Água has been isolated since the 21st of January, after a landslide.
