Bad weather holds Benfica da Brava back from its first trip to a national competition
Cidade de Nova Sintra, April 11, 2026 (Bravanews)- The atmosphere of celebration for the regional "double" has given way to waiting and uncertainty for the Benfica de Nossa Senhora do Monte team. The team, which was recently crowned regional soccer champion and holder of the Brava Cup, saw its trip to the Cape Verde Cup opener canceled due to bad weather conditions.
The match was initially scheduled for yesterday, but rough seas and adverse weather conditions prevented the island from being connected to the rest of the archipelago, making it impossible for the athletes and coaching staff to travel.
In exclusive statements to Bravanews, the President of the club, Adilson Bango, confirmed the impediment and guaranteed that the safety of the delegation is the priority. According to the manager, the club is in direct contact with the national sporting bodies to resolve the impasse.
"The team is now waiting for a new date, which will be agreed with the Cape Verde Football Federation (FCF)," said President Adilson Bango.
The postponement poses a logistical challenge for the FCF, which will have to adjust the Cape Verde Cup calendar to accommodate the Flores Island representative's match. While the new date is not announced, the Benfica de Nossa Senhora do Monte squad will remain in Brava, training in preparation for what will be one of the most important challenges of their season.
