The Municipality of Brava on Wednesday signed a cooperation protocol with the counterpart in Serpa, Portugal, in the areas of cooperation, economics, urbanism and the environment, culture, education and tourism.

Speaking to Inforpress, Francisco Tavares explained that the twinning protocol between these two chambers was signed in 1997 and he took advantage of his stay in Portugal, during the holiday period, to reactivate and reinforce existing ties.

According to the mayor of Brave, his Portuguese counterpart showed total openness to analyze the need to update this protocol.

During the meeting, Francisco Tavares informed that they carried out an analysis of the areas in which they could count on Serpa's partnership and experience, namely culture, education, tourism, among others, and added that the possibility of partnerships in other areas that the protocol contemplates.

The mayor emphasized that Serpa has an “excellent experience” in the preservation of the built architectural heritage and that it has a lot of similarity with Nova Sintra, in addition to the experience in safeguarding the intangible heritage that is the “Cante Alentejano” and that can be used in the preservation of the morna as intangible world heritage after its classification by Unesco.

Also, during his stay in Portugal, in addition to meeting with the municipality of Serpa, Francisco Tavares had the opportunity to meet the emigrants residing there and those who went for medical treatment and visited the Oeiras town hall and the Associação de Defesa do Heritage of Mértola (ADPM).

His visit to this association had the objective of getting to know a “successful reality” in the creation of a concept for the promotion and sustainability of tourism based on cultural and territorial enhancement, an experience that, according to him, can perfectly be implemented in the angry.
