Brava: Court orders pre-trial detention for suspected high-risk drug trafficker

This Sunday, July 7, the Brava District Court ordered the pre-trial detention of a 48-year-old man from the island of Sal, suspected of involvement in high-risk drug trafficking. The decision came after his arrest in Porto da Furna, where the National Police caught him in possession of 115 grams of hashish and 10 grams of cocaine during an operation to search passengers and vehicles.

After he was brought before the judicial authorities, the court ordered that he be remanded in custody while the investigations are ongoing, considering the seriousness of the case and the risk associated with the type of substances seized.

On the same day, a 36-year-old man from Fogo was also brought before the Public Prosecutor's Office as part of a case related to a third suspect, aged 33, who was arrested in October, also in Porto da Furna. The latter was arrested during a similar operation, when police officers found 83 doses of a substance presumed to be cocaine inside the cargo car he was driving.

The 33-year-old, who was caught red-handed on his island of residence, is accused of being part of an alleged trafficking scheme. For him, the court applied less severe coercive measures: periodic presentations to the authorities and a ban on leaving the island and the country while the case is under investigation.
