Brava: Funds raised in the “2nd Annual Fundraiser” are used to support Cape Verde

The founder and head of the American foundation Marlys Miracle, Maria Pereira, guaranteed that the funds raised in the “2nd Annual Fundraiser” will be used to send materials and equipment to Cape Verde.

Speaking to Inforpress, the official explained that this event, held on the 13th, in Pawtucket, United States, is the only form of income that the non-profit foundation has.

He added that it is through this that he guarantees some support and means to obtain the materials that the foundation donates to all the islands of Cape Verde.

According to the same source, there were some setbacks, preventing the event from reaching 100 percent (%) participation, but, considering what was accomplished and acquired, the balance is “positive”.

To continue the process of supporting and sending donations to the country, Maria Pereira said that it is necessary to look for funds and the only way besides donations is to organize a “large-scale” event, at least once a year.

The same source informed that the foundation started sending donations to Cape Verde in November last year and in August this year managed to reach the nine inhabited islands.

For the year 2020, the foundation is preparing to start its functions on the island of Fogo.

During the event, there was a performance by Cape Verdean artists, such as Calu Bana, John Miranda, Harmony Band, Jack Pina, and dance groups that, according to the founder, participated for free.

There was also a screening of films to show the work of the foundation, some raffles, among other activities.

The organization emerged in 2018, after the founder visited the island of Brava, 38 years after leaving her homeland and found a visually impaired girl, something that “messed” with her interior and decided to create the foundation for support those “most in need”.

Normally, the organization sends school and hospital materials, equipment for people in need, such as crutches, diapers, nutrition juices, wheeled carts, among other materials.
