The Councilor for Culture, in Brava, Edna Andrade, today asked all Brava residents to participate in the “Serenata Cabo Verde”, which will take place on the 18th, at national level, with the same repertoire.

This serenade, as explained by the official, is being organized to commemorate the National Day of Culture and Communities, celebrated under the motto “Eu_génio: from legacy to fiction”.

Edna Andrade asks for the engagement of all musicians on the island and the entire population, because, as she said, this is a heritage of the island and the country, and they cannot let it die.

Especially because, he added, the morna is a candidate for Intangible Heritage of Humanity and “everyone must ensure to make their contribution and raise it more every day”.

In this appeal, the same source added that culture only continues and remains alive, from the moment that each one becomes aware that he is an important agent who “must watch over and fight to bring, maintain and dynamize culture”.

To the people of Brave, in particular, he said that they should feel proud, for belonging to the island of “the greatest exponent of Cape Verdean culture”.

And, to “celebrate the 152 years of the birth of Patron Eugénio Tavares” and the National Culture Day, which is celebrated on the 18th of October, the municipality has already been carrying out a range of activities since last Saturday, the 12th.

On the 18th, preceding Serenta, there will be a presentation by the island's School of Music, an exhibition of handicrafts, gastronomy, lace and embroidery, recycling, plants, books, antique pieces, among others, followed by a serenade and to close the day and a week, an “off-season end-of-year party” is scheduled.
