Brava: Users and residents congratulate the works on the road but ask for a reduction in the interdiction time

Speaking to the press, Joaquim de Pina, a driver who makes the route several times a day, considered that the team of rockmen is doing “a good job”, justifying that there were several unstable parts of the rock that presented some danger, but with the landslide controlled, the situation is much better, especially at this time.

However, he stressed that the period that the road is closed is very long, since, according to him, from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm, neither pedestrians nor vehicles are allowed to pass, which can often affect the area, defending that during the lunch period, from 12:00 to 13:00, an exception could be made, allowing people who left home early to return and others who wanted to go out to go out.

And in this model, he underlined that even the economic sector and tourist investments would not be paralyzed, because even at lunchtime it was possible to have customers in his establishments.

In the case of drivers in the area, he said they have to leave Fajã around 7:30 am and only return at 6:00 pm.

Likewise, a visitor to the area, João José Delgado, considered that the work had been expected for a long time, taking into account the approach of the rainy season and that it is being done well, although he defends an analysis of the time of interdiction of passage, suggesting that it would be good to open during lunchtime.

However, he advances that if this is not possible, that the work continues to be done safely, but also with some speed so as not to damage the area even more, remembering that after the controlled provocation of the collapse of some unstable parts of the rocks, it is necessary to give continuity of work with the reconstruction of the wall and the paving of the section that was taken in the landslide on the 21st of January.

Work began on the 11th of July, with the aim of causing “controlled” landslides of the unstable parts of the rock, thus avoiding new natural landslides as the rainy season approached, a situation that was making the community apprehensive in view of account the danger it was posing, mainly because it was the only way out and in to and from the town.
