Cachaço Preschool Is Renovated Through a Partnership Between the Community, the Diaspora, and Institutions
The Cachaço Preschool on Brava Island is being renovated and modernized through a partnership involving the diaspora, the Brava City Council, the government, and members of the local community. Cici and Keith funded key materials, while the municipality provided the labor, and other partners contributed to the improvement of the facility.
The Cachaço Kindergarten on the island of Brava is undergoing renovation and modernization, thanks to a partnership between the Cape Verdean diaspora, the local community, the Brava Municipal Council, and the government.
According to the Brava Municipal Council (CMB), a significant portion of the project was funded by Cici and Keith, a couple living in the United States. Cici, a native of Mato, emigrated to the U.S. at age 19 but has maintained a connection to her roots. Keith, an American by birth, is described by the municipality as someone who has become “Cape Verdean at heart.”
The couple covered the costs related to the roof repairs, including the purchase of new lumber, the replacement of roof tiles, and other materials needed for the project. The collaboration between the couple and the local government was facilitated by Mr. Daniel Miranda, known as Yote, who acted as an intermediary in bringing the partnership to fruition.
The Brava Municipal Council covered the labor costs, while the restoration and modernization of the building’s interior resulted from an ongoing partnership between the municipality and the Ministry of Family, Inclusion, and Social Development.
The project also benefited from the collaboration of Mr. Alcides Pinto, known as Xidi, who contributed by painting the exterior of the building with oil-based paint.
For the municipality, the project demonstrates how cooperation between different sectors can produce tangible results for the community. The Brava Municipal Government (CMB) emphasizes that this partnership model—involving the diaspora, local residents, municipal authorities, and the national government—has contributed to the implementation of various projects on the island.
The Brava City Council expressed its gratitude to everyone involved, emphasizing that initiatives of this nature help improve conditions for children and build a better future for the people of Brava.
