CAPE VERDE LOST TO GEORGIA IN ITS BASKETBALL WORLD PREMIERE
Cape Verde lost by a difference of 25 points (60-85). In its absolute debut in a Basketball World Cup, the Blue Sharks were unable to overcome the nervousness and anxiety of the baptism of fire and were easily defeated by a much stronger and more organized Georgia, which thus scored its first victory in the world championship, also in its first participation.
On Cape Verde's side, almost nothing worked, neither attacking nor defending, and some of the players made mistakes that pay dearly at that level.
Blue Sharks will have to improve - and improve quickly - if they want to survive in a group F that Venezuela and Slovenia still form part of, teams much more experienced and accredited than Georgia.
In this Saturday's game, Kevin Gomes was the most efficient player in Cape Verde, with 11 points, 4 rebounds and two steals, 1 block and an assist. Edy Tavares gained 12 rebounds and Shane da Rosa had 6 assists.
Cape Verde will play again in two days against Venezuela before closing that first group stage against Slovenia on the 30th of August.
