Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints supports CoopUnipesca with equipment and boat rehabilitation
Today, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Brava delivered six cooler bags to the Cooperative of Shipowners, Fishermen and Fishmongers (CoopUnipesca) in Lomba Tantum, as well as "kits" for the fishmongers.
The initiative aims to improve the working conditions of these professionals on a daily basis.
In statements to Inforpress, the president of the branch, Jorge Rodrigues Santos, pointed out that, in addition to the donations delivered today, the project also included the rehabilitation of some boats and the provision of engines to support fishing activity in the community.
According to the same source, the project was to be accompanied in its entirety by the McAdms, the couple responsible for the Church's self-sufficiency and humanitarian aid plan who, for reasons of force majeure, were unable to travel to the island.
"But I am here as your representative and witness to this beneficial project that has come to fruition today and which will promote many heads of households, women and dynamic people, with the aim of guaranteeing a livelihood for their families," he said.
Jorge Rodrigues Santos also explained that this initiative is the result of a proposal put forward by the community of Lomba Tantum, with the aim of providing sustainable support to the local population, in partnership with the cooperative, identifying real needs and finding practical solutions.
For the Church, he added, this is an action of great relevance and social responsibility, aimed at helping the beneficiary families to develop a plan for self-sufficiency.
For his part, the president of CoopUnipesca de Lomba Tantum, Anildo Baptista, expressed his satisfaction and gratitude for the support received.
"We presented our project and we were not denied help. The fishmongers in this community need this equipment and today we are carrying out various actions, namely the delivery of six thermal bags, the repair of five boats and three engines, financed by three partner members," he said.
Anildo Baptista also said that a second phase of the project is planned for April, reiterating his thanks to the Church and all those involved in this initiative.
