Lomba Tantum community "crying out" for cable car to be repaired
The fishermen and fishmongers of Lomba Tantum are urgently calling on the competent authorities to repair the cable car in this town on the island of Brava, as it has been out of order for over a year.
According to the same source, currently, in order to transport fish from the Tamtum fishing area to Lomba, a man has to be paid 700 escudos to do so, and this situation is considered to be harming the fishmongers.
"When the cargo is transported uphill, we'll pay 350 escudos for a car to take them up again, so we're not making a profit, in other words, we're working for nothing. We need the government to look at our situation and resolve it as soon as possible because we've been in the same situation for over a year now," he said.
For his part, fisherman Walter Barros, who also shares the same opinion, pointed out that they had already appealed on social media for the device to be repaired, but so far nothing has been done and they are being harmed.
According to him, the fishmongers are receiving the fish to sell, but they pay a person to carry the goods and they charge a high price.
"If the cable car were in good condition, they would pay an affordable price for transportation that would be done more quickly," he stressed.
In this sense, he ended by reinforcing his appeal to those who are entitled to fix the cable car, since the device is essential for fishing in the town of Lomba Tamtum, which is an area that lives off fishing.
