Former President Jorge Carlos Fonseca talks about the crucial challenges facing Ilha Brava in a meeting with Mayor Amandio Brito
Nova Sintra City, November 4, 2025 (Bravanews) - The former President of the Republic of Cape Verde, Jorge Carlos Fonseca, recently paid a visit to the island of Brava, and yesterday, November 3, he had a meeting with the Mayor of Brava, Amândio de Brito. The meeting, which lasted about an hour, focused on analyzing the social and economic situation of the island and the prospects for its future.
Through a post on his social networks, Jorge Carlos Fonseca described the meeting as an "opportunity for information and an exchange of views". Among the burning issues discussed were water, health, transport, culture, sport and training.
The former President underlined the "cordial and instructive" nature of the conversation and reiterated his defense of the need for "clear and efficient positive discrimination" for the island-county. He argued that Brava, with its "particular contours and demands", requires a strengthening and deepening of this policy.
After the meeting with the mayor, the former President's agenda included visits to important projects underway on the island, such as the Seven Suns Seven Moons Center in Nova Sintra and the Brava Interpretive Center.
During these visits, Jorge Carlos Fonseca was accompanied by the Mayor and the director of the FSSSL, demonstrating his continued interest in the development and cultural enhancement of the island.
