Former President Jorge Carlos Fonseca visits Ilha Brava and on the agenda talks about poetry, books and reading
Nova Sintra City, November 2, 2025 (Bravanews) - The former President of the Republic of Cape Verde, Jorge Carlos Fonseca, is in Ilha Brava for a visit that includes participation in one of the island's most notable cultural events, the Seven Suns Seven Moons Festival.
Since his arrival, the former head of state has been sharing his impressions and emotions on social media, revealing a deep appreciation for the island and its culture.
In a text published on his digital platforms, Jorge Carlos Fonseca describes his arrival and the impact of the island. "On Brava since 1pm today. Every stone, the houses, the 'places', the faces - those present and those absent, every decade anticipating the uprising, every smile and every tear, every 'borracheira' or 'figote', the magical root of Cruz das Almas, show me the paths I want to take."
One of the highlights of his arrival was meeting a resident whose eloquence impressed him. "And I can't tell you what I can't say about Mr. Anderson Miranda Delgado, a Santantonian who has only been on the island of Mansidão for three years, in an impressive rhetorical speech, as we (the group) left Achada Igreja and went to Nho Lulu Madera's beautiful house.".
The former President also mentions the symbolism of the place where he stays overnight. "And I try to sleep, curiously in front of the sleeping Eugénio Tavares house-museum. And at this hour, there are so many rivers with agitated, wise and stimulating banks.".
The former President's agenda includes a meeting with the public, focused on the themes that are dear to him:
-
Date and Time: Day 2, at 6pm
-
Location: Brava Town Hall
-
Theme:Books, Writing, Literature and Poetry
This moment promises to be an opportunity for interaction and reflection on Cape Verdean culture and literature, opening up space for an enriching dialogue with the island's residents and interested parties.
Jorge Carlos Fonseca's visit to Ilha Brava and his participation in the Seven Suns Seven Moons Festival underline the importance of culture and literature in public life, strengthening the ties between the former President and his homeland.
