Fogo: PAICV sector in São Filipe has proposed Luís Nunes to head the list for the next legislative elections

The PAICV councillors in São Filipe met on Saturday, 21, to propose the names of the candidates for deputies, among the seven elements who volunteered to join the list for the Fogo constituency in the next legislative elections.

The meeting was attended by 36 of the 39 members with the right to vote and by a "large and expressive majority", the body decided to propose Luís Nunes to head the party's list on the island of Fogo.

Luís Nunes received more than 80 percent (%) of the councilors' preference, showing a strong internal consensus around his leadership.

In addition to Luís Nunes, the names of Henriqueta Cardoso (secretary of the São Filipe Municipal Assembly), Nilton Lopes (elected representative and teacher), Luís Pires (current MP), Joanilda Alves, Ilídio Pina and Maria Nova Montrond were also proposed in order of vote.

In the municipality of Mosteiros, the names of Lúcio Miranda Fernandes (doctor and current president of the Mosteiros municipal assembly), Manuela Barbosa, André Silva, Maria Veiga and João Fernandes were nominated.

The municipality of Santa Catarina do Fogo is due to meet later this week to present its proposals to the Regional Political Commission (CPR), according to the president of this regional body, Luís Nunes.

The final list will be approved by the CPR, but as has been the practice in recent legislatures, São Filipe should occupy the first and second places on the list, Mosteiros the third and Santa Catarina the fourth place.

Of the ten members of the list, five full candidates and five alternates, the planned distribution includes five names from São Filipe, three from Mosteiros and two from Santa Catarina, maintaining the representative balance between the island's three municipalities.

The CPR is due to meet by the end of this week to decide on the composition of the list of PAICV candidates for deputies for the Fogo constituency.
