The AGRI-COOL project has announced its first in-person advanced course in Cape Verde, dedicated to sustainable agriculture and cold chain solutions in Africa. The training will be fully funded and is part of the project's capacity-building activities, with a focus on strengthening African expertise in sustainable food systems that are resilient to climate change.

The workshop will take place from October 11 to 16, 2026, in Santa Maria, on the island of Sal, bringing together participants from different African countries. The initiative combines agriculture, renewable energy and refrigeration technologies, promoting an integrated approach between food, energy and water in the context of rural development.

The main objectives include deepening knowledge about sustainable agricultural systems, off-grid renewable energy solutions for agricultural applications, and refrigeration technologies to reduce post-harvest losses. The program will also include technical and economic analysis, business models and social aspects linked to technological adoption.

The training is aimed at African candidates with a master's degree in the areas of Agriculture, Horticulture, Cold Chain Logistics, Sustainable Agriculture, Refrigeration Technologies, Renewable Energies or related areas. Professionals with relevant postgraduate training and proven experience in the agricultural, energy or logistics sector may also apply.

Participation is fully funded by the AGRI-COOL project, including economy class airfare, accommodation, meals and local transportation on the island of Sal.

Applications must be sent by February 28, 2026 to the email address ylethatha@uwc.ac.za, with the subject "AGRI-COOL Workshop". Applicants must submit certified copies of their academic diplomas, proof of English proficiency and a letter of motivation. Selection will be based on academic background, the quality of the motivation letter and, if necessary, an online interview.
