The government is closely monitoring the situation in the Middle East.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Regional Integration, José Luís Livramento, assured that the Government is closely monitoring the evolving situation in the Middle East, paying particular attention to the United Arab Emirates, where the majority of the Cape Verdean community in the region resides.

According to the Governor, monitoring has intensified since the beginning of the attacks by the United States and Israel against Iran, as well as the Iranian retaliatory response.

“We are attentive to our community. I can say that the majority of Cape Verdeans are in the United Arab Emirates, particularly in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, where we even have civil aviation personnel working in that region. We have several other people, including children of well-known people here in Praia and beyond,” he stated.

The Minister also pointed out that the presence of Israeli nationals is small. "We have very few people in Israel," he added.

According to José Luís Livramento, the Executive has already established diplomatic contacts to monitor the situation. “We contacted, for example, the ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, who is in Dubai, and he conveyed a message of calm and that he is paying attention,” he revealed.

The Government also maintains direct contact with members of the Cape Verdean community residing in the region and assures that it will continue to monitor developments, especially regarding the possible impacts on the global economy. "We will continue to follow the situation, particularly concerning the impacts on the global economy," he concluded.
