Brava: Drivers warn of danger that improvised road section on the road to Fajã d´Água is revealing

Drivers on Ilha Brava warned today of the danger that the improvised section of road to the town of Fajã d´Água is posing for the community and all those traveling on the road.

The locality has been completely isolated since the 21st of January, following a landslide that took part of the road, and soon afterwards, an alternative road was built for the circulation of people from that locality and for visitors who, even after isolation, they move to the area and on the 19th of March, the road was reopened after some interventions, thus improvising a carriageway.

However, since that date, for almost a month, residents and drivers have stressed that the works are at a standstill, the improvised road is without maintenance, there is part of the rock that is unstable and that runs the risk of collapsing at any moment, situations that “ endanger not only drivers, but also users, taking into account the movement that has occurred in the area”.

Zeferino Alves, a driver and resident of Fajã d´Água, explained to Inforpress that the passage was improvised in order to have access by car and that, for a few days, work continued with machines in an attempt to improve access, but that after the works were paralyzed and no other information is known.

According to the same source, cars go up this improvised part “skating”, not to mention that the road that was improvised on top of earth and gravel is not being watered, which caused several holes and caused instability in the road, thus causing greater expense. of vehicle parts.

Hence, he appeals to the Government for an “urgent” solution because, as he said, there is an unstable part of the rock that could fall at any moment causing greater damage and putting the community, again, in isolation.

Also José Andrade, a driver who frequently makes freight to the locality, showed that when they improvised this route, they promised to continue with the work to improve it and study possibilities for the construction of this section.

However, he advanced that until then, a month after the improvisation, nothing had been done and there was nothing more about the process, in a place that gives access to an area very frequented by tourists and Brave locals, especially in the summer, where there is also the sure of a better income for drivers.

According to this driver, this stretch of road is setting up a “trap” for drivers, not forgetting the situation of the rock that threatens to fall at any moment, especially with the approach of the rainy season.

If measures are not taken by the Government, José Andrade says he fears a tragedy and a new isolation for this community.

“It is an area that everyone frequents, especially in the summer, and it is necessary to take measures in time, because there is still an unstable part that can fall at any time and that represents a danger”, he concluded, stressing that, the other time, for the amount of material that fell, if there was someone around, there would be no time to run.

At the time of opening the road, the mayor of Brava, Francisco Tavares, had announced to the press that work would continue with the construction of the protection wall, as well as work on the floor after the completion of the wall, and that continuity would be given to studies and work analyzing the possibility of an alternative path for the future.
