The new headquarters is a space for serving and supporting people who need assistance in the project’s various areas of intervention.

According to the mentor of the Zé Luís Solidário Project, Zé Luís Martins, the opening of the physical space marks a new phase in the organization’s work on the island, following two years of effort.

“It’s a dream come true; after two years of work on the project, we are inaugurating the physical space to bring our project closer to the people,” he said.

Zé Luís Martins explained that the establishment of the headquarters will improve the work that has been carried out in Maio, where the project has already supported several people, notably through medical transfers, food assistance, and the provision of school supplies.

He took the opportunity to call for greater participation by emigrants from Maio in supporting the initiative, and emphasized that the project relies primarily on donations to meet the needs of those seeking assistance.

“The people of Mayas need to follow the example of the other islands, because we are a social project that depends on donations, and we can only provide support if we receive support ourselves,” he urged.

The project’s founder also revealed his ambition to establish a physical facility on each island, with different areas of social intervention, in order to bring services closer to the communities.

In the case of Maio, the mayor, Rely Brito, has committed—according to Zé Luís Martins—to presenting a proposal to the Municipal Assembly for the allocation of a plot of land intended for the future construction of the project’s own headquarters on the island.

The Zé Luís Solidário Project carries out initiatives throughout the country, focusing on health, housing, and education, among other areas of social support.

Following the Porto Novo headquarters in Santo Antão, the facility inaugurated in May becomes the project’s second headquarters nationwide.
