Meteorology confirms “unstable” situation in Brava, but “there are no reasons” for alarm
The seismic rate “remains practically unchanged”, however, there was a “worsening” of the situation following a harmonic tremor in the early hours of Saturday to Sunday
The harmonic tremor, according to the National Institute of Meteorology and Geophysics, which occurred last morning in Brava, is a “continuous seismic signal that is characterized by having multiple frequencies produced by the flow of gases of volcanic origin”.
In a note sent to OPAÍS.cv, Meteorology confirms that Brava has been “unstable” in recent days, however, the recorded seismic rate remains “practically unchanged”.
Following these latest data, Meteo admits that it is “likely that from a seismic point of view, the condition will worsen in the coming days”.
In the last 24 hours alone “three events of magnitude greater than 3 on the Richter scale were recorded, felt by the population, all located in the Praia da Aguada area, without there being a significant change in focal depth”.
In view of this situation, the national Meteorology service “maintains a state of alert” in Brava at level 3, due to the occurrence of earthquakes that are frequently felt.
“Physically, it means that the amount of magma that has accumulated at the base of the Island has increased.”
INMG will continue to monitor the situation, but warns “there is no reason” for alarm, but the authorities “must remain alert”.
