Voting takes place from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in all political regions, both within the country and among the diaspora.

The direct elections pit three candidates against one another, each with distinct proposals for the future of the MpD and the reorganization of its structures, at a time when the party is in the opposition.

Despite numerous attempts to obtain information from the Electoral Process Support Office, it was not possible to speak with the office’s president; therefore, no official report was available regarding the opening of polling stations or voter turnout throughout the process.

Paulo Veiga leads in delegate candidacies

Regarding nominations for delegates to the National Convention, Paulo Veiga is the candidate with the widest reach, with nominations in 30 electoral districts, followed by Herménio Fernandes, with 23, and Luís Filipe Tavares, with 13 districts.

The three candidates head into the vote after a campaign focused on mobilizing party members and defining the model of the party they intend to lead.

Paulo Veiga, Luís Filipe Tavares, and Herménio Fernandes are thus competing in an election that is expected to determine not only the new leadership but also the direction of the MpD for the coming years.

In addition to the new president, party members are electing delegates today to the National Convention, scheduled for September 25, 26, and 27.
