One of the faces of unemployment in Cape Verde….

Aliana Andrade holds a degree in Political Science and a Master's in International Relations and Diplomacy from the Faculté des Sciences Juridiques Économiques et Sociales Rabat -Agdal has been looking for her first job in her home country for more than a half year.

Tired and frustrated, she sought out Bravanews to add her voice to thousands of young people who have finished their training and are waiting to start making their contribution to the country's development, but also to fulfill the dream of a stable job, within the enshrined right to work in the Constitution of the Republic of Cape Verde.

Coming from a poor family on the island of Brava, Andrade struggled to get an education, but now sees all the effort, fatigue, sleepless nights going to waste, because without the desired job, education becomes meaningless.

Believing in the more than 45,000 jobs promised by the then candidate for Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva, Aliana finished her training and returned to earth, believing that she would have her chance in her area of training.

“What was my astonishment, when I got here, knocking on dozens of doors, contacting several people, I still couldn't see my wish being fulfilled”, she said angrily.

According to INE, in 10 years the number of Cape Verdeans with secondary and higher education has increased seven times. The preferred areas are Social Sciences, Management and Law, with training linked to the primary sector being even less favoured, as is the case with Agriculture and Veterinary Science, for example.

There are also gender differences in this field. They opt more for areas such as Health and Well-being, they prefer Engineering and Technologies. In the areas of Arts, Social Sciences and Law there is greater equity between genders.

Aliana Andrade, 30, just wants an opportunity to put her professional skills into practice, implement what she learned during the years she spent abroad and contribute to the development of Cape Verde.

Speaking to this portal, Aliana said by way of analysis that the skills, training and skills of each person are not taken “into account in the country”.

She supports her assertion in the fact that she handed in her curriculum vitae in several places without even being called for the competition, only to see the names of people with less training than her or even without training being called to fill the existing vacancies.

“Then I ask what skills should be necessary, in this country, so that we can achieve the objective of having a job so that we can release our parents from the commitment to support us”, he asks, hoping to have answers to his questions since, he says, this to see that every day the situation is becoming more difficult.

And he said that there was still the parliament, the rulers and some politicians saying that the unemployment rate has been going down… how? Where?.. Could it be that I live in a different country than the politicians talk about? ends.
