Organization Escola Materna de Nossa Senhora do Monte celebrates 25 years with major cultural event in New Bedford
New Bedford, MA, August 7, 2025 (Bravanews) - The Our Lady of the Mount Nursery School Organization is celebrating a milestone this year: 25 years of dedication to the education and development of the Bravenian community. To mark this very special date, the organization is preparing a cultural evening of great significance, to be held on Saturday, August 16, at the traditional Bisca Club, located at 157 Acushnet Avenue in New Bedford, Massachusetts.

Established in 2000, the Nossa Senhora do Monte Mother School Organization has played a central role in the educational life of the island of Brava in Cape Verde. Since its foundation, the institution has grown in a solid and sustainable way, as a result of the tireless work of volunteers, educators and members of the community, both in the diaspora and on the island.
According to one of the founders, one of the organization's greatest legacies is the construction of an imposing building located in Nossa Senhora do Monte, which today houses a kindergarten and the 7th and 8th grades of the Liceu. This infrastructure has been a fundamental part of access to education for children and young people in the region, contributing to a solid basic education and to the promising future of countless Bravense families.
The 25th anniversary celebration promises to be a memorable evening, full of emotion, culture and music. The event at the Bisca Club will be attended by the Mayor of Brava, Amândio Brito, who will be keen to pay tribute to the organization and acknowledge its invaluable contribution to the progress of education in Brava.
The musical entertainment will be provided by the Bisca Band, a well-known group in the community, who promise to involve those present in an atmosphere of celebration, nostalgia and pride.
In addition to music and socializing, the evening is expected to include moments of reflection and homage, where key figures in the founding and development of the organization over the last two and a half decades will be highlighted. Former and current board members, teachers, benefactors and community representatives will be remembered for their essential role in this successful journey.
Over 25 years, the Escola Materna de Nossa Senhora do Monte Organization has been guided by values of commitment, dedication, passion and continuous growth. Its mission has been not only to offer tools for a quality education, but also to strengthen the ties between the Bravense community in the diaspora and their homeland.
The event in New Bedford represents not only a celebration of the past, but also an affirmation of commitment to the future. The organizers stress that this anniversary is an opportunity to renew energy, raise funds and chart new paths to continue serving the children and young people of Brava.
The organization invites the whole community to take part in this special moment, joining together in celebration, gratitude and hope. Tickets for the commemorative evening will be available in advance, and those interested are encouraged to book early, given the expected large turnout.
