Olivo Giovanni Gottin was born on March 11, 1924, in Pozzoleone, Province of Vicenza (Italy). He was the eldest son of the couple Andrea Gottin and Giacomina Mosele.

On March 16, 1924 Olivo Giovanni Gottin was baptized in the parish church of Santa Maria e S. Valentino in Pozzoleone.
On June 21, 1930, Olivo Gottin made his First Communion in the Capuchin Parish of the Madonna of Campagna and on the same day he received the Sacrament of Confirmation by Cardinal Maurilio Fossati, Archbishop of Turin.
After attending a year at the Technical Commercial Institute (1935/1936), Olivo entered the Seraphic Seminary of the Capuchin Brothers of Bra, Province of Turin, on September 27, 1936.
He began his year of Novitiate on August 5, 1940, in the Convent of Chivasso, taking the religious name of Friar Pio de Pozzoleone in memory of Padre Pio Podio da Mazzé who died, improvised, in Turin, on March 14 of the same year.
Fra Pio de Pozzoleone made his first religious profession on August 6, 1941 and his perpetual profession on March 19, 1945.
He was ordained a deacon on October 26, 1947 by the Capuchin Bishop Dom Egídio Luigi Lanzo.
Ordained a priest On February 1, 1947, by the same Bishop, in the Cathedral of Saluzzo.
On January 6, 1949, together with Father Mauro Cismondi de Busca and another confrere from the Province of Salerno, Friar Francisco de Padula received, during the Eucharistic celebration, from the hands of the Provincial Superior Father Barnaba de Busca the 'missionary mandate' to the Cape Verde Islands.
He arrived in Cape Verde on March 31, 1949. Destined for Fogo Island, he stayed in S. Lourenço until 1955.
In 1959, he founded the Institute of the Franciscans of the Immaculate Conception (“Franciscan Sisters”)
Arrived at Brava on October 23, 1955.
Superior of the Capuchin Brothers 1956 to 1969 1972 to 1975.
At Brava, he remained until August 1979.
From 1979 to 1999, apostolate among emigrants in the United States, where he died on November 7, 1999.
