The statement was made at the swearing-in ceremony of the new members of the Brava County Political Committee, chaired by MPD leader Ulisses Correia e Silva, who is visiting the island.
Samuel Varela stressed that the context is particularly demanding, as it is a pre-election period, reaffirming his commitment to honor the trust placed in him and to work tirelessly for the party and those he represents.
According to the leader, the challenges facing the MPD require courage, focus, direction, discipline and dedication, emphasizing that it is precisely at these moments that the true purposes of leadership are revealed, based on serving with integrity, listening carefully and acting justly.
The new council president also acknowledged that the political journey is not done in isolation, stressing that the new team is imbued with a spirit of openness to dialogue, balance, consultation and willingness to work together with all those who hold different points of view, with a view to strengthening and uniting the MPD.
"The moment is one of unity around the MPD and its leadership," he said, adding that he counts on the collaboration of everyone - from civil society to partners and, above all, the party's militants - to build a path of victories, with emphasis on the next legislative elections, scheduled for May 18.
For his part, the president of the MPD, Ulisses Correia e Silva, congratulated the new Brava council team, praising the spirit of volunteerism and the availability of the members who have put themselves at the service of the party to manage and boost political activity on the island.
Ulisses Correia e Silva stressed that, from now on, all the party's action will be centered on a single goal: "winning Brava and winning Cape Verde", stressing that, for this, three fundamental pillars are essential - unity, cohesion and teamwork until the end - recognizing that everyone has an important role to play.
The MPD leader also stressed that the party's focus is on the legislative elections, since the municipal cycle has already been overcome, arguing that it is time to concentrate all energies on the legislative victory.
"This is the moment to bring together the entire MPD family for a single reason: to win," he said, adding that the government team is making visits to all the islands with the clear mission of conveying the message that "governing is about serving Cape Verdeans."
