USA: Senator Liz Miranda wants to help descendants get to know Cape Verde

The senator, who has been in Cape Verde since the beginning of the month, recently expressed this desire during a visit to the President of the Republic, José Maria Neves.

“We want to collaborate with a project in which descendants can get to know Cape Verde, as many want to do so but don't know how”, he stated, highlighting the possibility of holding a conference, in the city of Boston, with descendants not only from the USA, but also from Portugal, Luxembourg and other countries in Europe and Africa where there is Cape Verdean emigration.

Program called “Year of Return”

In addition to this conference, Liz Miranda, cited by Inforpress, says she is working on creating a program called “Year of Return”, which aims to bring Cape Verdean descendants to Cape Verde to learn about their roots.

The prospect is that this project will be completed in 2025, between January and December.

“Our community in the USA is strong, we have people working in different areas, but the biggest problem is young people who go to the USA and, because they are not prepared to face life, face difficult educational situations”, he highlighted, also pointing out issues of violence against women.

An advocate for migration, environmental justice and economic justice

Liz is Representative of the 2nd District of Suffolk, which involves the neighborhoods of Dorchester, Mattapan, Hyde Park, Mission Hill, Jamaica Plain, Roslindale, South End, Fenway, among others, in the Massachusetts Senate since 2022.

This senator has stood out as one of the most prominent leaders in the Cape Verdean community in that state. Among the causes defended are migration, environmental justice, economic justice and maternal health.
