In statements to Inforpress, several residents emphasized that the water shortage affects families’ daily lives, agriculture, commerce, and various essential services, arguing that the issue should be among the new administration’s priorities.

With the new government taking office, the population is hopeful that concrete measures will be adopted to permanently resolve the water shortage, considered one of the greatest obstacles to the island’s socioeconomic development.

Farmer João Gomes said he is feeling the effects of the water shortage acutely, explaining that the situation is jeopardizing agricultural activity.

“We’ve been living with this reality for many years. We need a definitive solution, not just temporary measures,” he said, adding that he faces serious difficulties in maintaining his production due to the water shortage.

Manuel Fernandes also warned of the economic impacts of the problem.

"The water shortage is hurting businesses and making life difficult for the entire population. We hope the new government will keep its promises and resolve this problem as quickly as possible," he said.

This concern is shared by Maria Silva, a homemaker, who described the difficulties families face on a daily basis.

"There are days when we have to make a lot of sacrifices just to get enough water for the family’s basic needs. It’s a very difficult situation, especially for those with children and elderly family members at home,” she said.

Residents are also calling for the completion and commissioning of the seawater desalination plant, a project initiated by the previous government but which remains unfinished, despite the various dates previously announced for the start of operations.

While they await concrete answers, the residents of Brava renew their call on the new government to make resolving the water shortage one of its top priorities, thereby addressing a long-standing demand of the population and contributing to the improvement of quality of life and the sustainable development of the municipality
