Young Bravense fights rare cancer and asks for support for alternative treatment
Bravense youngster Keana Vieira has publicly revealed her almost decade-long battle against Mesothelioma, an extremely rare type of cancer for her age. The revelation was made through a personal post on social media, where Keana decided, for the first time, to expose her story and ask for support to continue her treatment - now through holistic and alternative methods.

Her struggle began in 2016 when, at the age of 18, she underwent an 18-hour surgery to remove her left lung, half of her diaphragm and a 6-pound tumor, even "dying twice" on the operating table before being placed in an induced coma. The situation arose just a year and a half after the loss of her mother to ALS, a pain Keana describes as devastating.
Despite facing aggressive therapies, additional surgeries, chemotherapy, radiation and immunotherapy, Keana decided to preserve the possibility of becoming a mother and underwent IVF when she was still a teenager. In 2023, after years of treatment, she received what she calls a "miracle": the birth of her son, who redefined the meaning of her life at a time when she was already feeling hopeless.
But because she was unable to receive treatment during her pregnancy, the disease progressed. After giving birth, Keana resumed therapy with her baby still only eight weeks old, while battling postpartum depression and learning to be a mother without her own by her side. The swings were constant: periods when the treatment seemed to work, followed by devastating news that there were no more medical options available.
Now, faced with the lack of alternatives in traditional medicine, Keana decided to seek holistic treatments. But the financial burden accumulated over almost ten years - medical bills not covered by insurance and new expenses - made everything more difficult.
With humility, emotion and hope, she asks for support through a GoFundMe, asking for contributions or simply the gesture of sharing her story. For Keana, this is the last big push in her fight for life.
