Brava: The 15th Brava Agricultural Fair Kicks Off with Strong Turnout from Producers and Exhibitors

Speaking to reporters, the representative of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment on the island of Brava, Ermelindo Barros, stated that the event began today under the slogan “Green Brava: Resilient Agriculture in Times of Scarcity, Valuing Water and Ensuring Production.”

In this regard, he said that the event addresses the global challenge that the UNDP and various authorities have been highlighting in a positive light, in line with calls from international organizations and national authorities regarding the sustainable management of water resources

“This motto, in terms of valuing water, will allow us to better organize our agriculture and ensure production,” he explained.

Regarding the outlook for this year’s event, the official emphasized that it is “the best possible,” highlighting the importance of the chosen theme in addressing the water scarcity problem the island has been facing.

The fair features approximately 25 exhibitors representing various fields related to the agricultural and livestock sectors, who will present a variety of products and initiatives over the course of three days.

Barros took the opportunity to call on all participants, visitors, and merchants to engage in a greater exchange of experiences, so that, ultimately, the sector can be revitalized—which is the main objective of this event.

Among the exhibitors is Platiny Mendes, a producer of artisanal liqueurs and vegetables, who highlighted the importance of the event for promoting his products and strengthening commercial relationships.

“This fair is an excellent opportunity to showcase what we produce in Brava. We’ve brought various types of traditional liqueurs as well as fresh, locally grown vegetables. In addition to sales, we’ve been able to exchange knowledge and learn new techniques from other producers,” he said.

Chef Cassandra Martins is also attending the event, presenting seafood-based dishes and the island’s culinary specialties.

“We’re promoting our cuisine, especially dishes made with seafood, which are part of Brava’s culinary identity. Visitors have shown a lot of interest, and this helps promote our culture and encourage the consumption of local products,” she said.

The Brava Agricultural and Livestock Fair runs for three days and aims to promote the development of the agricultural and livestock sectors, encourage the sustainable use of natural resources, and strengthen business opportunities between producers and consumers.
