Air traffic down 22.2% in September with sharp drop in domestic market - AAC
Traffic at Cape Verde's airports and aerodromes fell by 22.2% in September compared to August, with a total of 2,576 aircraft operations, influenced mainly by the sharp drop in domestic traffic, which fell by 45.1%.
According to data published by the Civil Aviation Agency, international traffic showed a slight decrease of five percent compared to the same period in 2024, with a negative variation of 2.8%, despite the fact that international traffic grew by 13.3%.
In terms of passenger movement, boarding, disembarking and transit, Cape Verdean airports processed 247,610 passengers, which represents a reduction of 23.9% compared to August, with falls in the domestic market, down 45.1% and in the international market, down 16.4%.
However, compared to September last year, there was an increase of 7.7%, driven by the 12.9% growth in international traffic.
The AAC also pointed out that the volume of cargo handled, embarked and disembarked, reached 108,751 kilograms, which corresponds to an increase of 23.5% compared to August.
The increase was similar for domestic traffic, up 23.0%, and international traffic, up 23.6%. When compared to the same month in 2024, the volume of cargo grew by 36.0%.
Mail traffic totaled 35,095 kilograms, a slight increase of 1.9% on the previous month, reflecting the 9.7% rise in domestic traffic and the 10.6% reduction in international traffic.
Compared to September 2024, the volume of mail fell by 5.5%.
