The government allocates 123 thousand contos for social support to more than a thousand families in São Vicente.
The government mobilized 123,000 contos from the National Emergency Fund to support social measures, with a special focus on São Vicente, following the storm of August 11th. The program contracts for implementing these measures were signed today.
More than a thousand families are expected to benefit from food support, furniture and household equipment, rent payments, rehabilitation of damaged homes, social inclusion subsidies, housing allocation, and support services for caregivers of dependents.
To implement the planned interventions, the Government signed program agreements today in São Vicente with community associations, social solidarity organizations, and food supply and construction companies. The ceremony was presided over by the Secretary of State for Social Inclusion, Lídia Lima.
"We will have a total of 1,020 families benefiting from these measures. 500 families will receive food assistance, 270 families will have their household equipment restored, 126 families who lost everything will have their homes rehabilitated, 45 families or individuals will receive care services, and 70 people will have the opportunity to benefit from this support with temporary rentals," he points out.
The government official reports that the emergency subsidy, worth 25,000 escudos, is already being allocated to nine families who lost loved ones during the storm, a support that precedes the lifetime social pension of the same amount.
More than 70 displaced families continue to live in relatives' homes, but the Government guarantees that support processes for temporary rentals are already underway, until permanent housing is allocated.
"In this process, we will rely on the support of local services, particularly the City Council and other services, to help us identify these homes, because we have a problem here in São Vicente: available rental housing. We already have about 38 processes underway; we believe we will be able to quickly find ways to complete this process for these 38 families within a week or two. Regarding the remaining families, we will have to rely on everyone to help us find homes," he says.
Lídia Lima is calling on construction companies to speed up construction on more than 120 homes.
"There are approximately 126 houses. We currently have a contract signed for 60 houses, and we will renew it or sign another contract in January, depending on the execution situation. Each company will build 10 houses to speed up the process. They will build 10 houses and will justify it by the end of December so that we can have the remaining part of the financing available in January and continue with approximately 66 more houses," he says.
To monitor the implementation of these actions, a technical team was set up at the Ministry of the Family, supported by two technicians funded by the United Nations, under the general coordination of the Secretary of State for Social Inclusion, Lídia Lima.
