The Ministry of Culture and Creative Industries (MCIC) has been strengthening institutional contacts and close relations with all the country's municipalities, within the framework of collaborative and decentralized governance.
It should be noted that the Mayor of Brava had already been received by the Governor in the city of Praia, when he sent an official invitation for a visit to the island, with the aim of getting to know the existing cultural infrastructures and ongoing projects in situ.
On the occasion, the Minister highlighted the relevant material and immaterial heritage of Ilha Brava, underlining the need to preserve and enhance it, as well as the importance of the traditional pilgrimage festival, which should be part of the national tourist route.
The Governor also expressed his conviction that the reactivation of the twinning arrangement with Sintra Town Council in Portugal could open up new opportunities for cooperation and strategic partnerships.
For his part, the Mayor presented the municipality's strategic vision, highlighting the government as a strategic and complementary partner in the implementation of local policies. He also mentioned the importance of the Bravense diaspora, particularly in the United States of America, stressing the need to create conditions to attract investment and promote the return of this "Bravense soul" to the island.
The challenges of boosting the island's culture were also pointed out. In this regard, MCIC's collaboration was requested to activate and transform the so-called "Rua da Cultura" into a true cultural artery, as well as to train and stimulate local cultural agents.
Both parties agreed on culture as a strategic asset for the sustainable development of Ilha Brava.
