Athletics/Brava: Athletes guarantee they are “ready” to represent the island in the “Fogo Vulcan Trail 2025” competition
A group of athletes from the municipality of Brava say they are “ready” to represent the island in the “prestigious” “Fogo Vulcan Trail 2025” competition, which takes place this Saturday, October 18, on the island of Fogo.
Speaking to Inforpress, the group's spokesperson, Patrícia Duarte, said they are ready and prepared to begin the race.
“I think we are all well and prepared to participate, but for my part I intend to do my best and hope to be among the best,” he said.
Among the representatives, young Celma Soares will compete in the eight-kilometer Trail Youth category, while athletes Patrícia Duarte and José Mendes will face the 16-kilometer challenge.
Aguinaldo de Sousa and Walter Felicidade will represent the municipality in the demanding 29-kilometer race.
The competition, which this year has the motto "Fogo Vulcan trail 2025 - the magic of trail running in the heart of the volcano," is considered one of the most intense and emblematic events in Cape Verde, bringing together 105 athletes from all the islands of the country and the diaspora, with confirmed participants from the United States, Austria, Guinea-Bissau, and Portugal.
