Brava: Carnival will have only two official groups this year

Speaking to Inforpress, she explained that the municipality has provided an initial subsidy of 50,000 escudos to each group, as well as logistical support, namely in the transportation of revellers from one of the groups.

According to the program, the carnival activities will take place next Tuesday, March 17, with ambient music starting at 11:00 in the streets of Nova Sintra.

The official start of the festivities is scheduled for 14:00, before the parade of the official groups, scheduled for 16:00, which will also include entertainment from other groups and surprises.

With regard to the prizes, the councillor clarified that the amounts have not yet been defined, as the city council is waiting for confirmation of the financial support from the Ministry of Culture and Creative Industries, in order to then establish the overall amount to be awarded.

Aliana Andrade acknowledged the significant increase in the cost of the materials used to build the floats, stressing that, in Brava, most of these materials are purchased in the city of Praia, which contributes to the groups' costs.

Despite the difficulties, the municipality has guaranteed that it intends to award more decent prizes to the official groups, the amount of which will be announced in due course.

The councillor also appealed to the Bravense population to turn up on time, stressing the importance of a sense of collective responsibility, in order to ensure that the parade runs smoothly and safely.

The official groups that will be parading through the streets of Nova Sintra this year are Renascer, who are taking part in the official Brava Carnival parade for the first time, and Riba D'Ora.

The Ministry of Culture and Creative Industries has contributed a sum of 400 contos to support the Carnival activities on the island of Brava.
