BRAVA ON ALERT: ATHLETICS IS DYING AND ATHLETES ARE SAYING "ENOUGH!"
Two years into the term, two seasons of silence. How long will this last? Athletics in Brava has reached a point of revolt and resignation. Athletes say they are tired of the neglect, the lack of support, and the absence of answers from the Brava Athletics Association.
According to the athletes themselves, during these two years the Association has practically not held any events, has not supported the runners, and has not created conditions for the development of the sport. And the indignation is even greater because, according to the athletes, not even the minimum has been guaranteed.
José da Luz, an athlete with experience and good results both on and off the island, publicly questions the Association's accountability. Leninha denounces the neglect of female athletes and states that they are only contacted when race time arrives. Zemilson, a promising young athlete, criticizes the lack of dialogue and the president's absence when athletes seek answers. And Aguinaldo, one of the most veteran athletes, laments seeing young people eager to enter athletics but lacking the motivation and support to continue.
This is no longer just a complaint. It's a cry for help!
Because, despite everything, athletes continue to run. Often, they themselves organize and seek ways to participate in competitions. And when support exists, it comes from people and organizations that truly believe in athletics.
Orlandinho Mascarenhas has been one of the great pillars, supporting with jerseys, shoes, equipment and medals for seniors and children. Joaquim Fortes “Quinzinho”, an unavoidable name in Brava's athletics, has also made a huge contribution and is preparing new projects to support the sport.
The question is inevitable:
How is it possible that those outside of Brava are more concerned about the athletes from Brava than those who have the responsibility of taking care of them?
Athletes don't want privileges. They want respect. They want transparency. They want support. They want competition. They want to be heard.
Therefore, an urgent appeal is made to the Cape Verdean Athletics Federation: it is necessary to look at the situation in Brava and take action. Athletics in Brava is losing athletes, motivation, and hope.
Don't let athletics die in Brava!
