Brava: Fathers of families seek sustenance by breaking stones
City of Nova Sintra, May 8, 2025 (Bravanews) - Along the winding road that connects the picturesque fishing village of Furna, the only maritime entry point to Brava Island, to the village of Nova Sintra, a moving scene unfolds daily. Men, many of them family men, dedicate themselves arduously to breaking stones, transforming them into gravel with the strength of their arms and the precision of their hammers.
These tireless workers face the sun and the difficult terrain to provide for their families. The manual production of gravel, essential for the maintenance and construction of roads and other infrastructure on the island, reveals the resilience and determination of the Bravense people in seeking their livelihood.
A local resident expressed his deep respect and pride in witnessing the efforts of these "road warriors": "Seeing these family men working with such determination fills me with pride for our people of Djabraba. They are true examples of struggle and dignity."
