Brava: Red Cross has been intervening wherever there is a need - responsible
The president of the Brava Local Council said today that the Red Cross has been intervening wherever there is a need and guaranteed that the institution will continue to work to serve the island.

To Inforpress, Sónia Coelho said that the main objective of this institution in Brava is to get an extension in the parish of Nossa Senhora do Monte, as conditions currently only allow it to cover elderly people from Nova Sintra.
According to this official, the Red Cross wants to include elderly people from all over the island, and not just from the outskirts of Nova Sintra, who are welcomed at the Day Center called Dona Edith Gomes da Silva, which is open from Monday to Friday.
"At the center they arrive every morning, have breakfast, lunch and a snack and we also make a point of looking after their health, in partnership with the health police station. But we also have a teacher who offers the elderly physical activities every Thursday," he said.
However, he also stressed that the Red Cross is always available to help and underlined that in the campaign against dengue the institution was on the ground making its "extremely important" contribution in the fight against the disease.
"On the days of the campaign we were able to do a lot of work, raising awareness and the cleaning campaign, but also from there we were able to see, on the ground, the fragility of each family in this municipality and then we went to deliver donations to those most in need," he stressed.
Sónia Coelho also assured that the Red Cross always acts where there are requests and said that they already know all the fragilities of each family in each area of Brava, so when there is a need they look for a partnership to help.
"In order not to let the International Day of the Red Cross go by unnoticed, today there will be a round of talks and games, but throughout the month we will have various activities," he concluded.
World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day is celebrated on May 8, the date that honors the birth of its founder, Henry Dunant, in 1828.
On this world day, activities are held to highlight the importance and value of humanitarian aid, as well as to plan a better response in the event of emergencies and disasters.
