Cape Verde strengthens metrological infrastructure with technical support from Brazil
Cape Verde is moving forward with the creation of its National Metrology Laboratory with technical support from Brazil, reinforcing the quality infrastructure and training national technicians to reduce external dependence on high-precision calibrations.
Cape Verde took a strategic step towards strengthening its national quality system with a technical mission from Brazil's National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology (Inmetro) between January 19 and 23.
The mission focused on providing direct support to the Institute for Quality Management and Intellectual Property (IGQPI), with a view to structuring the future National Metrology Laboratory (LNM), a key element in guaranteeing reliable measurements, traceability and technical support for the country's productive sectors.
The initiative is part of the Brazil-Cape Verde technical cooperation project (BRA/13/008), coordinated by the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC). The program is aimed at strengthening national capacities in the areas of metrology and conformity assessment, which are considered essential for competitiveness, consumer protection and international integration.
During the mission, the future facilities for the mass, volume, flow and temperature laboratories were assessed. The technical team analyzed the structural and environmental conditions, defined operational scenarios for the implementation of calibration services and carried out theoretical and practical training with Cape Verdean technicians.
During the mission, the future facilities for the mass, volume, flow and temperature laboratories were evaluated.
Technical recommendations were also drawn up and priority acquisitions identified to ensure the efficient operation of the laboratory. The agenda included institutional meetings and technical visits to IGQPI and the Center for Renewable Energies and Industrial Maintenance (Cermi).
For Cape Verde, the advancement of the metrological infrastructure represents a structuring investment. The existence of a National Metrology Laboratory will make it possible to reduce external dependence on high accuracy calibrations, strengthen the country's technical credibility and create solid foundations for industrial, commercial and technological development.
