CNE highlights civic atmosphere in Brava election campaign

The delegate of the National Electoral Commission (CNE) on the island of Brava, David Pascoal, said today that the electoral campaign for the legislative elections on May 17 is running "smoothly", in an atmosphere of "dialogue and civility" between all those involved.

In statements to Inforpress, David Pascoal explained that there is permanent coordination between the city council, the representatives of the two candidates, the police and the other partners involved in the electoral process.

According to the official, the campaign is taking place "in a climate of understanding", promoting the values of democracy and institutional respect between the political forces on the island.

The CNE delegate also congratulated the candidates and their respective representatives for the responsible way in which they have conducted their campaign activities, stressing that the electoral process must be approached with maturity.

"This isn't a war, it's a democratic contest for power," he said, calling for respect between candidates, supporters and voters.

David Pascoal also took the opportunity to encourage the population to exercise their right to vote consciously and freely, pointing out that the vote is secret and represents one of the main decision-making instruments for citizens.

"Each voter should vote with their conscience, for the list they consider best, without any kind of influence," he stressed.

In the legislative elections on May 17, five political parties - PAICV, MpD, UCID, PTS and PP - are running for 72 seats in 13 constituencies, ten of which are in the national territory and three in the diaspora.

In the last legislative elections, held in April 2021, the Movimento para a Democracia (MpD) won with an absolute majority, electing 38 deputies, against 30 for the PAICV and four from UCID.
