Nilza Varela Foundation to fund dental medical missions to children in Brava

The meeting served to align development strategies and establish direct channels of cooperation, with the immediate result being a strong investment in children's and young people's health in the municipality. The major highlight and practical outcome of this charitable meeting was the design of an intervention plan aimed at public health, with a special focus on the dental health of Brava's children. Sensitized by the local difficulties in accessing specialized stomatological care, both institutions designed an innovative solution involving international cooperation. Until now, Brava Town Hall had been working closely with a team of Brazilian dentists. However, due to logistical and financial constraints, these medical missions of specialists from Brazil ended up being limited to the country's capital, Praia, without being able to reach the outlying islands on a regular basis.
This is precisely where the Nilza Varela Foundation plays a key financial and logistical role in decentralizing this medical care. Thanks to the protocol established at this meeting, the scenario will change significantly for the children and young people of Brava. With the foundation's sponsorship and direct funding, the team of Brazilian doctors will formally travel to Brava, making one or two trips a year for totally free dental consultations, treatments and screenings. António Varela assured BravaNews that the foundation will fully fund the expenses of 5,000 US dollars per visit during the professionals' stay.
This financial subsidy will cover all operational costs, accommodation and the clinicians' stay on the island, ensuring that the professionals' focus is entirely on community care.
